Three Dead In Overnight Road Accidents
There has two been further road tragedies with two male pedestrians killed in a road crash in Limerick and a driver being fatally injured in a separate car crash in Co Offaly.
Two Gardaí were involved in the fatal crash when it happened shortly after midnight on the N20 close to the Raheen roundabout on the outskirts of Limerick city.
The male and female officers who had just come off duty at Limerick's Henry Street Garda Station were travelling home in their own private car when two pedestrians - believed to have been on the road - were struck by the car.
The men in their 20s were both pronounced dead at the scene and the area has since been preserved as an accident scene and a technical examination is taking place.
The Garda Ombudsman's office has also been informed, as Gardaí were involved in the incident, and will be carrying out its own investigation.
Gardaí have also said that a 17-year-old has died in a separate road crash in Co Offaly.
The single-vehicle crash happened at Derryadd, Killeigh, shortly before 10pm last night close to the Laois border.
A passenger in the car was taken to Tullamore General Hospital with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, after the death of student Kelly Gregan, 20, who was killed after she was struck by a car on the main street in Gorey on 24 October, a man is due in court today charged in connection with the alleged hit-and-run in Co Wexford, last year.
The 32-year-old man will appear at Gorey District Court later today.
