Ombudsman Probes Second Fatal Crash
The Garda Ombudsman Commission has launched an investigation after a 22-year-old man died in a road crash in Co Galway last night.
The crash happened outside Williamstown near Tuam at around midnight.
A police spokesperson said the man died when his car went off the road as it was being 'observed' by officers.
Last week, two pedestrians were killed when they were struck by a car being driven by a police officer that was coming of his shift at the nearby station.
Two Gardaí were involved in the fatal crash when it happened shortly after midnight last Thursday on the N20 close to the Raheen roundabout on the outskirts of Limerick city.
The male and female officers who had just come off duty at Limerick's Henry Street Station were travelling home in their own private car when two pedestrians - believed to have been on the road - were struck by the car.
The Garda Ombudsman's office has also been informed, as Gardaí were involved in the incident, and will be carrying out its own investigation.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist has died following a road accident in Midleton, Co Cork on Sunday.
The man was driving from Cork city towards Youghal when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car at the Lakeview Roundabout just after 2pm.
The man was declared dead at the scene, which was preserved for a technical examination.

Woman, 82, Dies In Road Accident
An 82-year-old woman has died following a road accident in Donegal. The crash occurred at around 3.50pm on Monday (18 August) at The Ross in Bundoran. Gardaí have said a car collided with a fence in the incident. The woman was transferred to Sligo Hospital but later died from her injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí.

Man Dies In Co Monaghan Road Crash
A man has died in a road crash in Co Monaghan, gardaí have reported. According to gardaí the man in his 20s died in a two-car collision on the N2 Dublin-Monaghan, south of Carrickmacross. It is understood the victim was the driver of the one of the cars involved in the accident.

Carlow Car Crash Kills Two
Two people have been killed in County Carlow. A man, 23, and a woman, 18, died when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a tree in Kilcarry, Clonegal. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and the two killed were the only occupants in the car. Garda have appealed for any witnesses to the crash.
