Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Nurse

A 49-year-old man has this morning been found guilty at the Central Criminal Court of murdering his ex-girlfriend.

Milhalache Marian, who is originally from Romania, pleaded not guilty to murdering 35-year-old Loradena Pricajan on 28 January, last year.

The nurse was found dead in a bedroom at the Irish Management Institute's campus in Sandyford, Dublin.

Ms Pricajan was visiting Marian in the apartment despite neither being students at the institute.

A porter was first to the scene after hearing a disturbance in the room. He discovered Marian on the floor of the room, and Ms Pricajan under a sheet, presumed dead. Marian was then rushed by ambulance from the scene to the nearby St Vincent's hospital where he underwent surgery. It is understood he had sustained knife wounds.

Ms Pricajan's throat had been cut. She had been working as a nurse in St Vincent's Hospital and living in Ballawley Court in Dundrum, just a short distance from where she was killed.

The jury reached their unanimous decision after deliberating for just an hour and a quarter.

Marian received a mandatory life sentence.
