M7 Reopens After Pileup
The M7 between Dublin and Limerick has reopened on Thursday afternoon after a pileup involving some 17 vehicles occurred during the morning rush.
All lanes of the road southbound reopened at 12.15pm near Portlaoise, after the removal of three crashed trucks and a number of other crashed vehicles, which occurred at 8.15am approx.
According to AA Roadwatch, dense fog was a problem all morning, especially in the midlands but lifted from most areas by midday.
Following the crash, motorists were warned of a lot of debris and fuel on the road, and traffic was diverted off at junction 16 through Portlaoise.
Shortly after 8am, two trucks were involved in a collision leading to up to around 10 subsequent accidents involving around upwards of 17 cars, due to lack of visibility.
One of the lorry drivers had to be cut from his vehicle and it is believed the driver has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not life threatening
Gardai are on point duty directing traffic as there are long delays.
