Murder Blights Paddy's Day Celebrations

A murder investigation is under way following an attack on a man in Dublin last night.

The 48-year-old was beaten and kicked outside a pharmacy on the Ballymun Road at around 9pm and died from his injuries at Beaumont Hospital this afternoon.

The victim had been in a local chip shop when a dispute arose between him and a group of men.

The victim, who was from Poppintree, was subsequently attacked outside on the Ballymun Road in front of a pharmacy.

He was punched and kicked and fell to the ground sustaining serious injuries.

Gardaí Issue New Appeal For Icelandic Man Missing In Dublin
A renewed appeal has been issued for help finding 41-year-old Jon Johnson. Mr Jonsson, who is from Iceland, was last seen in the Whitehall area of Dublin at around 11am on Saturday 09 February. He is described as around 6' tall, of medium build, with short brown hair and was wearing a black padded jacket.

Three Arrested In Airport Drug Probe
Two South African women and a Portuguese male have been arrested after a drug haul worth half a million Euro was seized at Dublin Airport. The arrests came following a large scale operation by the Santry Drugs Unit and the Revenue's Customs Service.

Arrest Follows Skerries Body Discovery
Gardaí in Balbriggan have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a men in his 50s at a house in Mourne Park, Skerries, yesterday evening. The body was found at about 18:00. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Two Arrested In Passport Fraud Investigation
Gardaí have arrested two employees of the Passport Office, as part of a joint investigation with the Department of Foreign Affairs into passport fraud. An internal Passport Office investigation was begun in May following the discovery of irregularities in two passports being issued.

Four Arrested In Cannabis Find
Cannabis plants and herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €1.5 million have been seized in west Dublin. €20,000 in cash was also discovered. Four men aged in their 30s were arrested and are currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act at Blanchardstown and Ballymun Garda Stations.
