Anglo Investigation Nears Completion
The Director of Corporate Enforcement, Mr Paul Appleby, has revealed that he has sent another extensive investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) regarding certain events at the Anglo Irish Bank.
The file relates to Anglo lending €451 million to 10 customers in 2008 to purchase shares in the bank held by businessman Seán Quinn to uphold the share price.
At an NUIG Business Society Meeting last night, Mr Appleby said the investigation file was approximately 8,000 pages and about 90% complete.
He said the ODCE investigations were "progressing well" and every effort was being made to substantially complete all investigations by the end of the year.
One investigation file and three reports were already sent to the DPP on four aspects of Anglo investigations last year. The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation also sent papers to the DPP on its investigative work around the same time.
