Minister Quinn Congratulates New Trinity Provost
The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn TD, has welcomed the election of Professor Patrick Prendergast as the next Provost of Trinity College Dublin.
Warmly congratulating him on his achievement, he said: "He will take on the role of Provost at a time of significant challenge for the university itself and for the wider higher education system in Ireland.
Minister Quinn added: "Prof Prendergast will bring many distinguished attributes to his leadership role, drawing on his national and international reputation and experience in teaching and research and his most recent experience in the role of Vice-Provost.
"He carries my very best wishes into the job ahead and I look forward to working with him into the future.”

Seán Quinn Jnr Appeal Launched
Ireland’s Supreme Court has begun hearing an appeal launched by Seán Quinn Jnr against his three month jail term. His lawyers have told the Supreme Court his indefinite imprisonment for contempt of court and failing to reverse an asset-stripping conspiracy is "incorrect and legally wrong".

The Supreme Court has been told that a computer hard drive which contained crucial information pertaining to the recent charges against the Quinn Group was deliberately smashed. The hard drive was part of the operations of a Quinn Group Russian company.

New Role For Dept Of Health's Secretary General
It has been confirmed that Dr Ambrose McLoughlin, the Secretary General of the Department of Health, is to move to a new role next year, ahead of his retirement. Dr Ambrose will support the implementation of the Health Ireland initiative, Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said.
