Minister Commends Defence Forces For Fire Efforts
Minister for Justice Equality and Defence Alan Shatter has commended the Defence Forces for their contribution to the fire fighting efforts in the North West of the country.
Forty-five troops have been in Falcarragh since first light assisting local fire-fighters in dealing with gorse fires in the area.
Two helicopters were deployed in Donegal and were later joined by a third. Two of these helicopters are fitted with Bambi buckets which are capable of dropping 1,200 litres of water to douse fires.
Troops are on standby elsewhere around the country to assist local authorities if required.
Minister Shatter thanked all of the personnel involved for their heroic efforts in fighting the fires over the bank holiday weekend.
