Weekend Funeral For Former Taoiseach

The State Funeral of former Taoiseach, Dr. Garret FitzGerald is to take place this weekend in Dublin.

Dr FitzGerald, 85, passed away in a Dublin hospital after a short illness.

He served as Taoiseach twice between 1981 and 1987.

On Saturday from 11.00 am until 7.00pm, members of the public can pay their respects to his coffin and sign the book of Condolence in the Oak Room, Mansion House, Dublin 2.

A formal reception of Dr. FitzGerald’s remains will be held at the Sacred Heart Church, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 at 8.00pm.

Following the service there will be a further opportunity for members of the public to file past the coffin and to offer their condolences to the family.

A burial mass will be held on Sunday at 2.30pm at the Sacred Heart Church, Donnybrook.

Interment will take place in Shanganagh Cemetry, Old Bray Road, Shankill, Co. Dublin.

Dr FitzGerald made key negotiations in the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985 helping Northern Ireland work towards a peaceful future.

Man Arrested In Neil Fitzgerald Murder Investigation
A man in his 20s has been arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of Neil Fitzgerald. Mr Fitzgerald (36) was found dead at Hills Lane in Tallaght, Dublin, on Sunday, 05 June. Gardaí made the arrest on Wednesday. It is the third arrest made as part of their ongoing investigation. The other two men remain in custody.

Minister For Justice Invited To 'Take A Walk Through Dublin City Centre'
The Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has been invited to take a walk through Dublin city centre to "witness the surge in criminal activity and anti-social behaviour". Fianna Fáil's spokesperson on justice, Niall Collins, extended the invitation during a Dáil debate on a spike in tourist muggings in the capitol.
