Arrests Made In Byrne Murder Investigation

Gardai have arrested seven people as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of Stephen Byrne.

Mr Byrne, 32, was shot dead by a lone gunman near his home on Sheriff Street on the 13th of July 2010.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Four males, two aged in their 20s, one in his 30s, and one in his 50s, are detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act. Another male aged in his late teens is detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act. Two females aged in their late 20s and early 30s are also detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

All of the above were arrested this morning in the north inner city area and a being held at a number of Garda Stations around Dublin.

This brings to 13 the total number of arrests in relation to this investigation.

Gardai have made three further arrests in relation to the murder David Byrne on the 19th March 2011. Three males all aged in their late teens were arrested this morning and are currently detained at Garda Stations in the south inner city.

Gun And Ammunition Recovered In Search
Gardaí in Dundalk have arrested a man in connection with the discovery of a loaded gun and an assortment of ammunition. It is understood that the find was made during a search of a property in the town on Wednesday. The man is being held Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939. Garda say that their investigation is ongoing.

Four Arrests Over Attack On Suspected Thief
Gardaí investigating an attack on a suspected car thief have arrested four people, one being the woman whose car was broken into. The suspect thief, a 27-year-old, is in a critical condition in hospital following the attack, in which he was kicked and punched in the head repeatedly.

Two people have been arrested and a firearm has been seized following a Gardai operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Drogheda area. On 11 July, Garda stopped and searched a car at around 3pm in the Crushrod Avenue area.

Two Arrested Following Armed Robbery In Clontarf
Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Clontarf early on Thursday morning. Two armed men entered a shop on Stiles Road, Clontarf, Dublin 3, at about 07:45, demanding money from a female staff member. Garda tracked two men to a nearby building, where they recovered a firearm and a sum of money.
