Burke Comments On The Death Of Senator Myles Staunton
An Cathaoirleach, Senator Paddy Burke, has released a statement on the news of the passing of Former TD and Senator Myles Staunton.
Mr Staunton, 75, first stood for election at the 1969 general election for the Mayo West constituency. He was elected for Mayo West as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) at the 1973 general election. He lost his Dáil seat at the 1977 general election but was elected to the 14th Seanad on the Administrative Panel. He was a Fine Gael candidate at the 1979 European election for the Connacht–Ulster constituency and was re-elected to the 15th Seanad in 1981.
He stood again for the Dáil at the 1989 general election but was not elected. He was elected to the 19th Seanad on the Industrial and Commercial Panel in 1989.
Extending his sympathy, Senator Burke said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former TD and Senator Myles Staunton.
“Myles was a true parliamentarian, public representative and servant of both the State and County Mayo. He carried out his parliamentary duties over a twelve year career in the Oireachtas with great foresight and dignity.
“My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
