Irish Population Grows To 4.58m
Early results of the 2011 Census have reported that Ireland's population was 4,581,269 on 10 April.
The figures indicate an increase by more than 341,000 people since the 2006 Census.
The strongest population growth was in County Laois with a 20% in just five years.
The results also highlighted a healthy net inward migration of 119,000.
However in comparison to the 2006 Census there are now more females than males in the country with 981 men for every 1,000 women.
The 2006 Census recorded a population of almost 4.25m people living in Ireland.
The Government's will now consider plans for redrawing electoral boundaries and reducing the number of TDs before the next election.

St Vincent de Paul (SVP) said the latest CSO Census figures are of "grave concern" and has called for "urgent action". The data revealed that children aged between 0-4 are now the largest single age group experiencing homelessness (765), said the Society.
