USI Urges Students To Be Safe At Oxegen
The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is urging students and young people to stay safe at this weekend’s Oxegen festival this weekend.
Approximately 80,000 people will attend the massive event and the USI is asking students to take extra care.
They are advised to use public transport, wear sunscreen if the sun is out, practice responsible drinking and safe sex, and to keep a good supply of water.
USI President, Gary Redmond, said: “The Union of Students in Ireland is urging students, coming from around the country to practice caution at Oxegen.
Be sure to wear seatbelts while travelling on our roads to and from the festival. If you are not strapped in and you crash, you will be thrown around the car injuring or killing yourself or other passengers. Without a seatbelt you are a potential killer.
If you are out walking around Punchestown, please make yourself visible to motorists. Wear reflective clothing, as drivers cannot avoid what they cannot see.
Never drink or drug drive and certainly don’t accept a lift from a friend that has been drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Use public transport if possible.”
He concluded by saying: “Stay safe, enjoy the festivities, and make it home safely.”
Oxegen 2011 features some of the world's biggest acts including The Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Beyonce.
The first festival-goers arrived at the camp sites in Punchestown yesterday.
