New Web Site Launches For 2012 Titanic Centenary

A new highly informative and interactive web site for Dr. Michael Martin’s ‘Titanic Trail’ has been launched by the Mayor of Cobh, Cllr. Jim Quinlan.

The new web site, www.titanic.ie, highlights Cobh’s association with the tragedy of the sinking of RMS Titanic in1912 and promises to help increase visitor interest in Cork as a premier tourism destination. To commemorate the 123 passengers who embarked on the Titanic from Cobh, 12 paper Chinese lanterns were launched from the roof of the Commodore Hotel last night.

“Awareness of Cork’s association with the Titanic’s last port of call needs to be promoted worldwide, and with the 100th anniversary commemoration taking place in 2012, the launch of this new marketing project is ideal,” noted Michael Martin. “It is an original and novel site, promoting an authentic Titanic experience. With links to many local businesses and tourism interests, it also promises superior marketing opportunities for the whole area. It is an investment that I hope will bring benefits to the whole community, especially to the people of Cobh.”

Along with greatly expanded information on the Titanic Trail and local tourism attractions, there are also many other innovative sections on the site. Full booking facilities for the guided walking tours are now offered online and feature a special commemoration tour to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in 2012. In addition, a shopping facility, featuring authentic Titanic collectables will now be available for visitors to the site. The merchandise includes a unique collection of Fr. Brown prints of the Titanic’s last voyage, Dr. Martin’s ‘Titanic Trail Booklet,’ a specially commissioned DVD of Spike Island and a world exclusive limited edition print of the Titanic in Cork Harbour by well know Cork artist, Kevin Sanquest.
