Ó Cuív Appointed Deputy Fianna Fáil Leader
Following the recent death of Brian Lenihan, Éamon Ó Cuív has been appointed Deputy Leader of Fianna Fáil.
Michael McGrath will now undertake the role of Finance Spokesperson.
Commenting on his new role, Mr McGrath said: “It is a particular privilege for me to succeed the late Brian Lenihan in this role. Brian was a great colleague and friend, and I learned a great deal from him.
“It is not possible for anyone to fill his shoes, but I will fulfil the role to the best of my ability.”
Mr Lenihan, 53, passed away on 15 June due to pancreatic cancer.

Tributes Paid To Late Brian Lenihan
The Irish Republic's former Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has died from cancer. He was a member of parliament for the (now) opposition Fianna Fail party. Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has now paid tribute to Mr Lenihan describing him as "an intellectual powerhouse".

Despite losing a challenge to Brian Cowen's leadership of Fianna Fail last week, former Foreign Minister Michael Martin has emerged as favourite to lead the party into the General Election. A Fianna Fáil leadership vote will take place on Wednesday and nominations to stand for the leadership close at 1pm this afternoon.

Ireland's tourism sector has experienced a surge in visitor spending, with overseas visitors spending €5.38 billion from January to October 2024, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023. While visitor numbers increased by 8% year-on-year, reaching 5.79 million, challenges persist in certain markets, particularly from Great Britain.
