Hours Reduced At Roscommon Hospital
The urgent care centre at Roscommon hospital has ceased to offer a 24-hour service from today.
From 8am this morning, the centre will now only be open from 8am to 8pm to treat patients with non-emergency conditions, with emergency cases being transferred to other hospitals in the region for treatment.
A protest was held at the hospital on Saturday, which attracted around 500 people and campaigners have reportedly pledged to continue their protest at Croke Park next Sunday, where the All-Ireland football semi-finals are being held.
Protesters have also vowed not to allow the unit to close this evening and, according to reports, people are already gathering at the hospital to protest.
Fine Gael TD Denis Naughten has lost the party whip and resigned as chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health, Children & Youth Affiars after voting against the Government on the issue.
