Fianna Fáil Leader 'Contacted Byrne Over Presidential Bid'
Broadcaster Gay Byrne has told reporters that Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin had contacted him regarding a possible bid to run for the Irish Presidency.
Speaking to the Irish Times, the former Late, Late Show host said that Mr Martin had contacted him to ask him to consider running for President.
Mr Byrne said that he would be taking his time to consider his decision, adding that he wanted to speak to his wife and daughters about it.
Nominations for the presidency close in early October, with election set to take place on October 27.

Unexploded Bomb Found In Kildare Garden
An unexploded bomb has been uncovered in the front garden of a home in Kildare. It is understood the homeowner immediately contacted Gardaí after discovering the device at about 3.30pm on Wednesday. Gardaí alerted the Army bomb disposal unit to examine the find. A number of residents in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency Landing At Dublin Airport
A flight from Paris was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport on Monday night after the plane suffered a burst tyre. The Air France flight 1016 departed from Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris at around 6.30pm (Irish time), when it is understood to have blown a tyre.

Presidential Voting 'Must Be Extended' Say SF
Sinn Fein has urged that all the people of the island of Ireland be allowed to vote in the Irish Presidential elections. Sinn Fein MLA Barry McElduff has called for the extension of voting rights. He was joined by an MLA from each other county in Northern Ireland to call for this right.

Senator And Dana Continue Ballot Bids
Three Irish TDs will today consider whether they will sign Senator David Norris's nomination papers allowing him to enter the presidential race. As of yesterday the Republic's Senator had received 16 signatures and combined with his own he now only needs support from a further three Oireachtas members.
