More Couples Seeking Marriage Counselling

A record number of couples are seeking marriage counselling services, the Catholic marriage care service, Accord, has revealed.

The service revealed that 43,627 hours of counselling were provided to 6.145 couples last year and said that there was an 8% increase in demand for couples seeking their services.

Accord listed a variety of factors attributed to causing relationship problems, including stress, communications problems and financial problems.

However, internet misuse was the fastest growing problem in marriages, rising by 20% in the last year and by 125% since 2007. Spending too much time text messaging was also cited as a problem.
