Man Injured In Navan 'Pipe Bomb' Blast

A man in his late 40s has been injured in a suspected pipe bomb explosion at his home in Navan, Co. Meath.

The incident happened around 8am at the man's home in Beechgrove. It is understood that the device exploded when the man opened his door to leave the house.

The man received minor injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

The blast also caused minor damage to the front door of the house.

The scene has been closed for a technical examination.

It has been reported that the injured man was a former garda informant.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the Johnstown Wood area of Navan in the early hours of this morning or anyone who may have information to contact them.

Man Arrested Over Fatal House Fire Released Without Charge
A man arrested in connection with a fatal house fire in Dublin has been released without charge. A 44-year-old man died in the blaze which happened at a property on Oakland's Terrace, Rathgar, at around 3am on Tuesday, 21 August. It is understood the man had escaped from the fire before returning inside and suffered critical injuries.

Michael Barry Acquitted In Toyosi Murder Case
A judge has directed the acquittal that Dublin man, Michael Barry, is to be acquitted of a murder charge of Toyosi Shittabey in April 2010. 15 year old Toyosi was stabbed on Good Friday following an argument between a group of friends and the Barry brothers.

Two Charged Over Alvor Killing
A teenager and another male have appeared in court in Portugal charged in connection with the death of a Londonderry businessman in the Algarve earlier this month. The accused, aged 19 and 26 and from Brazil, were charged with homicide and robbery. The 26-year-old was remanded in custody while the 19-year-old was placed under partial house arrest.
