Garda: Avoid Traffic Chaos At Electric Picnic
The Garda have warned that the traffic surrounding the areas hosting Ireland’s Electric Picnic festival will be particularly heavy this weekend.
Gardai have drawn up a traffic management plan for this weekend’s festival in Stradbally, which was prepared by Portlaoise traffic branch and the Garda. Overseeing the traffic plan for the weekend will be Insp John Nolan with 60 Gardai also policing and managing traffic at the event.
All approved routes leading to the designated parking areas for the event are clearly sign posted and patrons are urged to follow these routes to avoid unnecessary delay and traffic disruption. Key junctions and points will be manned by Gardaí.
Designated privately operated car parking is also provided adjacent to the event site on all approved routes. This parking is free to all ticket holders.
The Garda have advised that no roadside parking or disembarking will be permitted. Tow trucks will be used to remove any roadside parking or vehicles causing obstructions.
Coaches and camper vans are requested to follow the specific 'Coach & Camper Van' signs. Vehicles displaying 'Disabled Permit' should also follow this route.

No other area will be permitted for use as a taxi drop-off/ collection area and will be strictly enforced by Gardaí and taxi regulator inspectors.
Electric Picnic has established itself as a truly unique Irish festival, set amid the rolling lawns of Stradbally Hall, Co Laois, a beautiful 600 acre estate just 50 mins from Dublin. The musical line up at the event includes Pulp, The Chemical Brothers and Underworld. It takes place on Fri-Sun 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 2011.
Route Planning
Those attending the event from the southbound direction on the M7 (Limerick) will exit at junction 16 and then on to Broomfield roundabout on the Stradbally Road and follow the signage from there.
The northbound traffic from the M7 will also follow this route. Those arriving from the M8 (Cork) from the northbound direction will exit at junction 4 on through Durrow, Abbeyleix, Ballyroan and then on to the site.
Traffic coming from the N80 from the Carlow direction will proceed straight into Stradbally, as will the traffic from the R428 from the Athy direction.
