Over 13,000 Without Electricity
So far around 13,000 people have been left without power as strong winds sweep across the country.
The tail end of Hurricane Katia’s destruction has left Cavan, Longford, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal the worst hit by power outages.
2,000 customers in Dublin are also without power due to a failure in Coolmine.
ESB Networks anticipates further problems as a result of the stormy weather and says it has a number of crews on standby.
Warnings of coastal flooding due to exceptionally high seas along the western seaboard have also been issued.
The west and northwest are experiencing the worst of the weather conditions. Motorists have been warned of dangerous driving conditions in many parts of the country.
AA Roadwatch warned motorists to take particular care on exposed roads and in high-sided vehicles.
P&O Ferries has cancelled this afternoon's Dublin to Liverpool sailing as well as the sailing leaving from Liverpool tomorrow morning.
This morning's 8am Aer Arann flight from Carrickfinn (Donegal Airport) to Dublin was also cancelled due to severe weather.
Meanwhile in Limerick city, there are very dangerous driving conditions on the N18 Galway/Limerick Road and on the N21 Limerick/Tralee Road from Adare on approach to Limerick City. Motorists are reporting strong winds and fallen debris.
In Galway, flooding has been reported on the Leenane/Barna Road (R336) along the Promenade at Seapoint. Gardaí are advising motorist to avoid this route.
Schools on Arranmore Island off the Donegal coast have been closed because of the severe weather.
Ferry services to the island are suspended as they are unable to leave Burtonport Pier on the mainland due to high winds and rough seas.

Met Eireann Issue Severe Weather Warning
As heavy rain and strong winds continue to batter Ireland a severe weather warning has been issued for at least the next 24 hours. Met Éireann has released the warning and are advising motorists to exercise extreme care on the roads where spot flooding and debris are making driving conditions dangerous.

Hazardous Roads Warning Issued
Met Éireann has warned drivers to exercise caution on Irish roads today, due to hazardous weather conditions. The weather authority said temperatures dropped to as low as -8C in the Cavan/Monaghan area overnight leading to potentially dangerous road surfaces.

Winter Bites Across Ireland
As temperatures across Ireland plummeted overnight to new levels of chill, travellers continued to suffer disruption today as what has been described as the worst winter in a century continues to bite. A Government emergency response committee is to meet this morning to discuss the ongoing problems caused by the cold snap.

Rough Sleepers In Dublin Increase
The Dublin Region Homeless Executive has reported there was a minimum of 139 persons sleeping rough across the Dublin region. This is compared with the spring (April 2013) count, which confirmed a minimum of 94 persons to be sleeping rough.
