Nine Held In Burglary Probe

Nine people have been arrested in connection with a number of 'large scale' burglaries in Dublin.

The garda have released a statement saying that five men and two women were detained as part of an ongoing operation at 7.15am this morning.

The seven men and two women are all Romanian nationals.

Five males, ranging from mid teens to mid 30s, remain detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

The other two males, one 27-years-old and the other 22, are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

One female, 23, was arrested for outstanding warrants and has been before the courts. The second female, 35, was removed to prison under Immigration Legislation.

A further four people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Jeffery Hannon in 2007. Gardai investigating the murder of the 19-year-old Jeffery Hannon at Southill in Limerick during November 2007, say they have this morning arrested four people in the Limerick area.

A man and woman have been arrested this morning in connection with a 'tiger kidnapping' incident in Dublin at the start of September.

Man Arrested In Connection With Abduction And Assault Of Kevin Lunney
Gardaí investigating the abduction and assault of Kevin Lunney have made another arrest. The man, aged in his 50s, is currently detained in Cavan Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. Mr Lunney, a director of Quinn Industrial Holdings was abducted and subjected to a prolonged attack in September 2019.

Cocaine Now Second Widely Used Drug
A report by a national advisory committee has found cocaine is now the second most popular drug in Ireland. In the survey, commissioned by the National Advisory Committee on Drugs, the use of the drug was shown to have trebled in the last five years and has over-taken the use of ecstasy.
