Tragic Road Accidents Blight Irish Roads
A woman has been knocked down and killed in a road traffic accident in Ballymoney, Co Antrim.
The police have confirmed that the victim was a female pedestrian, aged 56, and that she died after being struck by a vehicle on the Lislagan Road on Wednesday evening.
The PSNI are now appealing for anyone who was travelling in the area between 8pm and 8.15pm to come forward with any information about the collision.
They have asked that witnesses contact them in Ballymoney on 0845 600 8000.
This means that a total of 46 people have died so far this year on Northern Ireland's roads.
There was also another Irish road tragedy yesterday with the Gardaí in Belmullet investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred near the Co Mayo village.
Officers said the collision occurred at approx 11.50am on the 19th Oct 2011 on the Belmullet to Blacksod road at Binghamstown.
They said the driver, aged 59, was the sole occupant of the car that collided with a wall.
He was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured in the collision.

John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Witnesses Sought To Fatal Road Accident In Co Mayo
Gardaí in Mayo have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Ballyhaunis late on Wednesday night. A 45-year-old pedestrian died after he was hit by a car at Grallagh shortly before midnight on 16 December. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital for Post Mortem examination.

A man has died following a collision with a car in Claremorris, Co Mayo. The victim, understood to be in his 70s, was knocked down by a car on the N17 at around 7.30am this morning (8 December). He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident.

Garda in Co Mayo have reported the death of an 18-year-old man in a single vehicle collision at Tarmon, Blacksod. Garda say that the man died when his car left the road and struck a wall. The accident happened at around 17:40 on Wednesday. A second man in the car was airlifted to Mayo General Hospital.
