Time Running Out For Murder Probe Gardaí

The police in Cork have only a few more days in which to question three men over the murder of a suspected drug dealer in Cork in August.

Father of two Darren Falsey (36) was shot dead when he answered a knock at the front door of his home in Ashbourne Court, Ferney Road, Carrigaline, on August 3rd.

The men have been arrested in recent days in connection with his murder.

On the day Mr Falsey was shot dead, he had visited Cork city with his partner, Lorraine Conroy. She dropped him to their rented home at 2pm.

Ms Conroy then left and when she returned approximately 45 minutes later, she discovered Falsey lying in a poll of blood in the hallway. Gardaí later found 9mm shell casings at the scene.

Shortly after his murder, Gardaí found more than €30,000 in cash concealed in a fridge at a lock-up premises in Riverstick that was rented by Falsey.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Carrigaline shortly after 8am yesterday and taken to the Bridewell station in Cork city for questioning. He can be held for up to seven days before being released or charged.

A 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old man who were arrested on Monday morning for questioning about the murder also remain in custody, Gardaí said today.

They are all being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act (2007). Under this legislation, a chief superintendent can ask the courts to allow them to be detained for questioning for up to seven days.

After that, a decision has to be made to either charge them or release them without charge.
