Man Dies In Fatal Flats Fire

A man has died following a fire at a flat complex in Dublin in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Four others were rescued from the building by two gardaí on patrol on St Joseph’s Avenue in Drumcondra.

The officers on patrol said they saw smoke billowing from the property at around 4.30am and broke into the building.

The men who were asleep in a ground floor flat were wakened by the garda officers and led to safety.

However the officers were unable to get to a man sleeping in an upstairs flat.

Fire crews were called to tackle the blaze and they later discovered the body of the man, believed to be in his 20s, in the upstairs flat.

His remains have been removed to the city morgue and the scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination.
