Final Day Of McAleese Presidency
Today is the last day in office for Mary McAleese.
This is the 60-year-old's final day in office as the President of Ireland.
Ireland's ninth President Michael D Higgins will be inaugurated as her successor.
Mary was the first Irish President to welcome a British Monarch to the Republic.
Prof McAleese has held the post for the past 14 years and is widely regarded as a hard act to follow.
On 11th November, 1997, Mary McAleese was inaugurated as the eighth President of Ireland and was re-elected on Friday 1st October 2004 being the only validly-nominated candidate.
She is a barrister and former Professor of Law. Born on June 27th 1951 in Belfast, she is the first President to come from Northern Ireland.
The President-elect Michael D Higgins will visit Northern Ireland at the weekend following his his inauguration.
He will travel to Londonderry on Sunday for the final of the all-island school choir of the year competition after attending the Remembrance Sunday service at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, earlier in the day.

McAleese Honours British War Graves
Irish President Mary McAleese is visiting Gallipoli in Turkey to mark the deaths of thousands of Irish soldiers who fought in the British Army during the First World War. She attended wreath-laying ceremonies in the Gallipoli region where nearly 4,000 Irish troops died in a bloody five-month campaign in 1915.

Cyprus Meeting Highlights Ireland's EU Presidency
The preparations for Ireland’s presidency of the European Union are on the agenda today in expectation of Ireland taking over the EU presidency from Cyprus on 1st January 2013. The Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD, is in Cyprus today to meet the new Cypriot Minister for European Affairs, Mr Andreas Mavroyiannis.

The Irish Republic has designs on its future success with news today that the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore and the Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton have launched an online public poll to select the logo that will represent Ireland's EU Presidency in the first six months of 2013.

Girl Freed In Drimnagh Murder Probe
A teenage girl questioned about the deaths of two Polish workers has been released without charge. Pawel Kalite, 26, and Marius Szwajkos, 27, both died last week after being stabbed in the head and throat with a screwdriver, apparently after refusing to buy alcohol for a gang of under-age youths in Drimnagh, south Dublin.
