Drop In Priests' Pay

Priests in Dublin have seen their pay drop by 9%.

Donations in the Dublin diocese have fallen by 16% in the past three years.

The dip in funding is due to falling collections and soaring expenses. In addition there is the cost of extra childcare-protection and clerical-abuse compensation claims.

“The Archdiocese, like many other organisations in these difficult times, is conducting a wide ranging review of all its finances in an attempt to determine what services and projects it is in a position to fund and plan for into the future, and all expenditure and income is being examined thoroughly,” a spokesperson for the diocese said.

The basic income of a curate in the Dublin Archdiocese is €24,079 per year, increasing by up to €2,820 depending on length of service. Parish priests get an additional allowance of €4,827.
