Met Eireann Issues Weather Warning

Ireland's weather centre has issued a warning to Irish residents that very heavy rainfall and winds should be expected on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Met Eireann said rainfall accumulations of 25 to 50mm will occur on Thursday in many parts of west Munster and west Connaught.

Meanwhile, all parts of the country will experience southerly winds of mean speeds 50 to 60 km/h gusting 80 to 100 km/h.

AA Roadwatch are reporting wet road conditions in most places and are urging drivers to slow down and stay a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

A spokesman said: "Heavy rain and strong winds expected today and tomorrow (Friday). Up to 80mm of rain is likely over the two days but Cork, Kerry, Galway and Mayo will be worst affected.

"Winds of up to 100kmph will affect the southwest in particular."

Gardai said there was excess surface water on the M8 Dublin to Cork Road both ways between J10 Cahir Northbound and J11 Cahir Southbound.

"Drive with extreme care and slow down," the spokesman added.
