Woman Dies After Offaly Canal Collision

An investigation is underway into the death of a woman whose car left the road and plunged into a canal in County Offaly.

Gardaí at Birr said they are investigating the single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the road between Cloghan and Shannonbridge at approximately 1pm on Sunday.

The 30-year-old female who was a passenger in a car was seriously injured when the car she was travelling in left the road and entered the canal at Clononey.

She was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe but was pronounced dead this evening. The other occupants, a male driver and an 8-month-old boy, were also taken to Hospital in Ballinasloe with minor injuries.

This stretch of road was closed for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has now reopened following its completion.

Gardai said they wish to appeal for witnesses to this collision to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 9169710, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Witnesses Sought To Fatal Collision In Co Galway
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Co Galway. A man, aged in his 70s, died when the car he was driving hit a wall on the Ballinasloe to Laurencetown Road at Sycamore Hill at approximately 8.30pm last night, Tuesday 20 February.

Man Killed In Tractor Collision In Co Donegal
Gardai in Letterkenny are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Co Donegal earlier today, 12 January. The collision occurred at approximately 6.55am on the Lifford to Letterkenny road at Drumoghill – approximately three to four miles outside Letterkenny – between a car and a tractor.

Man Killed In Roscommon Road Collision
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision at Ardkern, Roscommon. A man (20) was seriously injured when the car he was travelling in as a passenger left the road and struck a ditch. He was taken to Sligo University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
