Over 2,000 Register For Household Charge
Some 2,000 people have registered to pay the controversial Household Charge, according to the board managing the scheme on Wednesday.
The Household Charge Project Board says over 2,000 have already paid by credit card or debit card and hundreds more have set up direct debits.
The system to make the compulsory payment went live on January 1, giving people until 31 March to register.
The €100 fee for home owners can be paid on an online system at householdcharge.ie, which has been set up allowing the registration of households and for payment to be made with a credit or debit card.
Payment can also be made by cheque, postal order or at local authority offices.
The fee, introduced in the latest budget, has been met with stern opposition including a number of TDs who said they would be refusing to pay the charge.
