Ryanair To Introduce €0.25 ETS Levy
Ryanair has announced it would introduce a €0.25 levy per passenger for all bookings made from Tuesday 17th January to cover the costs of the EU’s new eco-looney ETS tax, which will cost Ryanair passengers €15m - €20m during 2012.
The impact of ETS on Ryanair passengers at €0.25 per one way booking will be less than the impact upon those travelling with other EU airlines as Ryanair is Europe's greenest, cleanest, airline it has been confirmed by Brighter Planet 2011 report.
Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said: "Ryanair does not believe that European aviation should be included in the ETS scheme since it accounts for less than 2% of the EU's CO2 emissions. This latest EU stealth tax will damage traffic, tourism, European competiveness and jobs at a time when no other economic block is including aviation in their ETS schemes.
"This new ETS tax is the latest in a long line of cost increases imposed on Europe’s air passengers by the European Union, which reduces the competitiveness of EU air transport with yet another misguided 'environmental' tax which does nothing for the environment but penalises EU consumers and families."

Delays At Airport After Planes Clip On Runway
Minor delays were caused at Dublin Airport this morning after two Ryanair flights clipped each other while taxing to a runway. According to witnesses one plane lost a small section of its wing when it clipped another plane. No one was injured in the incident and the airport quickly returned to normal.

EU Block Ryanair In Third Attempt To Buy Aer Lingus
Ryanair’s third attempt to buy Aer Lingues has again been blocked by European Union antitrust regulators. Following the Eu executive vetoing the airlines first attempt in 2009, the regulator have again said the bid could hurt competition and lead to higher prices for passengers.

Ryanair Calls on EU to Reduce Regulatory Burden
Budget airline, Ryanair, has called on the European Commission to reduce the regulatory burden and associated costs on airlines. Airline Chief Executive Officer Michael O'Leary has also called on the European Commission to reconsider its prohibition of Ryanair's offer for Aer Lingus with consolidation taking place among other airlines.

No More Income Tax Hikes, Claims Lenihan
The Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has said there will be no further income tax increases this year. The vow comes only a month after the Government doubled the income levies in the emergency budget. Despite the assurances, Mr Lenihan has confirmed that a property tax and a carbon tax were being considered.

Ryanair Calls For EU Action Over Strike
Ireland's budget carrier Ryanair has urged the EU to take action over the imminent strike action by Spanish air traffic controllers. The no frills said last night it will operate "hand baggage only" flights to and from the country on Wednesday this week to combat the 24 hour strike.
