Finance Union Calls For AIB And Govt Engagement

Ireland's largest finance union has urged AIB and the Department of Finance to coordinate "meaningful engagement" on the restructuring of the bank and a number of outstanding issues affecting various grades - including staff working in the Bank's call centres.

The IBOA said that in view of the development in AIB's subsidiary, EBS, on Wednesday where management was permitted to engage with the employees' union, IBOS said they believed senior management should also undertake meaningful dialogue with IBOA

Union General Secretary Larry Broderick said: "Even though AIB Executive Chairman, David Hodgkinson, announced over 2,000 job losses at the Bank nine months ago, we are still awaiting details on the areas, grades and locations which have been identified for cutbacks by management. We have made a number of attempts to engage with the Bank - including an intervention by the Labour Relations Commission which had to be abandoned in the absence of any firm proposals from the Bank.

"But so far the talks have hardly got out of the starting blocks."
