Car Collision Sparks Waterford Blaze

An investigation has been launched into a collision in County Waterford that led to a car going on fire and the death of its driver.

Gardai in Tramore said they are investigating the two vehicle Fatal Road Traffic Collision on the N25 at Ballyshunnock, Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2.50am when an articulated lorry was in collision with a car. The car then went on fire and the male driver was fatally injured.

Police said that due to the nature of the fire, the driver's identity and age have not been positively confirmed at this stage.

There was no one else in the car.

The driver of the Lorry was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

This stretch of road is currently closed pending completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardai said they wished to appeal for witnesses to the collision or to anyone who may have travelled this stretch of road around the time of the collision to contact Tramore Garda Station on 051-391620, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Man Killed In Fatal Car Crash In Co Monaghan
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a car crash in Co Monaghan. The two-vehicle collision happened at 6:30pm on the N54 Monaghan to Clones Road in Aghalisk yesterday, 05 January. The 68-year-old victim was fatally injured in the crash and declared dead at the scene.
