Workers To March On Dun Laoghaire Town Hall
Union members in Dun Laoghaire will be holding a march to the town hall on Friday in protest against recent "attacks" on the Croke Park Agreement.
According to the union Siptu, the decision to hold the march was made by shop stewards representing workers in the council.
Siptu organiser Conor O’Gorman said council staff wanted to stand up to attacks on public services and those who provide them.
"The Council workers want to remind people that the quality of public services and those working to provide them are under attack. Those working in the public service are mainly low paid hard working people.
"They are the people who grit the roads in winter, who keep the streets clean, who keep the water flowing and they have repeatedly shown that they are prepared to change to make these services more efficient and cost effective. Yet despite this they are constantly accused of inflexibility."
Mr O'Gorman said that, in Dun Laoghaire, the council staff have repeatedly shown willingness to embrace change and will continue to do so.
"We are holding this protest after work and all Council workers will be attending in their own time. We are very conscious that our protest should not in any way impact on the delivery of services to the public,” Conor O’Gorman added.
