Former Athlete Joins Fine Gael
Fine Gael has unveiled former runner and current Senator Eamonn Coghlan as its newest member.
The three-time Olympian was appointed to the Seanad last year as an independent by the Taoiseach.
No decision has been made on whether or not he will run in the next General Election.
Mr Coghlan said: "Having listened to many debates, I now wish to walk and ultimately run on that path towards re-establishing a bright and positive future for all of the people."

Lenihan Tops Irish Leader Poll
A poll has revealed that the public favour a change of Taoiseach with the front runner being Finance Minister Brian Lenihan. According to the Irish Times poll this morning, the current Minister for Finance is favoured by the public to replace Brian Cowen, leading his nearest rival, Michéal Martin, by 21 percentage points.

Eight Fine Gael TDs Say Incremental Pay Increases Should Be Examined
Incremental pay increases and allowances for higher-paid public service workers should be examined for possible savings, according to eight Fine Gael TDs. In an article in the Irish Examiner, the group said these two areas are not part of the Croke Park Agreement and that pay increases must be put back on the table to correct the budget deficit.

Voting Takes Place For Meath By-Election
Voting will take place today in the Meath By-Election. There are eleven candidates for the seat. The turnout is believed to be poor due to the adverse weather conditions. The seat was made vacant after the death of former Fine Gael TD Shane McEntee. People can vote until 9pm tonight.

Donations To Irish Politicians Almost €1 Million
Figures published by the Standards Commission have revealed TDs, Senators, MEPs and former Members received donations totalling a huge €855,995 for 2007. The donations included money, property, goods and services. A total of €1,343,818.62 was donated when including those who were unsuccessful in their election bid.
