Lottery Operator Could Receive €50m

The next operator of the National Lottery could be offered €50 million to run the business.

Under Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin plans for the sale of the licence the new operator could run the lottery for between 20 and 30 years.

The Minister will bring the proposals to Cabinet early next month.

An Post currently holds a seven-year licence to operate the State’s lottery. They receive an annual management fee of just under €3 million.

Preferred Bidder Selected For National Lottery Licence
A preferred bidder has been selected in the sale of the next National Lottery licence. Premier Lotteries Ireland made a bid of €405 million for the 20 year licence, which will begin next October. The consortium is made up of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, which owns the Camelot Group, An Post and An Post pension funds.
