Dublin Ranked One Of Ten Worst For Cybercrime
Dublin has been named as one of the worst European cities for cybercrime, an online security firm's survey reveals.
Norton's study showed the city was one of the ten worst for hacking. Each city was ranked by the prevalence of PCs and smartphones in addition to social media use with risk factors like unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots and malware attempts.
"With the explosion of smartphones, tablets and laptops in recent years, and the rise of apps and social networking sites, our online and offline lives are blending together in ways that we’ve never before experienced," said Marian Merritt, Norton Internet Safety Advocate. "While there are many positive aspects as a result, this analysis highlights the potentially risky factors we face each time we go online. By taking a few simple precautions now, people can make sure they stay protected against online threats."
Manchester was found to be the riskiest city.

Irishman Secures Broadcasting Rights For World Cup Qualifier
An Irishman has bought the Australian television rights to a World Cup qualifying match between Ireland and Sweden. 38-year-old David Feeney, from Deansgrange in Dublin, but who has been living in Sydney for 16 years, is believed to have paid tens of thousands to buy the rights from a German company.

Dublin has maintained its position as the Best Small Region of the Future in Europe in the fDi magazine 2020/2021 rankings and 2nd Overall Best Region. This performance was driven by a strong showing in the Economic Potential (1st) and Business Friendliness (1st) categories.

€70m Announced For Storm Damage
The Government has announced €70 million will be made available for a programme of repair and remediation works. This will enable local authorities in the areas worst affected by the storms, including the most recent flooding, to help affected communities by restoring roads, coastal protection and other infrastructure and amenities.

Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore were tied for the top spot in the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2019 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey.
