Minister To Meet With Family Of Murdered Malawian Student

Minister of State for Trade Development, Joe Costello, will meet the family of murdered Malawian student during a trip to her home country.

Rudo Mawere's body was discovered in a luggage bag on Blackhorse Avenue.

A post-mortem found that the 26-year-old had died from asphyxiation.

Mr Costello said: "Rudo's untimely and tragic death shocked and saddened us all, and I wanted to take time during my visit in Malawi to personally convey that sympathy and support to the Mawere family."

During the four day trip Mr Costello will also view the results of Ireland's aid programme and meet with politicians and HGO leaders.

Call For Support To Protect Cinemas In Dublin
Councillors are being urged to support proposals to protect two old cinemas in Dublin. Dublin City Cllrs are to vote if the cinemas in Cabra and Whitehall can be included on the Record of Protected Structures. It would ensure that the buildings' façade, the entrance, main lobby and ticket desk would be protected as sites of local significance.

President Higgins To Visit London
President Michael D Higgins is to visit London later this month on his first official trip abroad. He will begin his three day tour on 21st February where he will visit the London Irish Centre. The President will travel to the Olympic Park and meet Lord Coe, President of the Olympic Games organising committee.

Quinn Family Meet Gardaí Boss
Relatives of murdered Co Armagh man, Paul Quinn are meeting Gardaí Commissioner Fachtna Murphy in Dublin today to discuss the investigation into the murder of the 21-year-old last year. The Quinns, who will be accompanied by SDLP Deputy Leader Alisdair McDonnell, are also due to meet Irish TDs from the various political parties.

Climber's Family Meet Expedition Leader
The brother and girlfriend of Limerick man, Gerard McDonnell, who has died during his desent from the K2 mountain last week - and whose remains are to be left on the peak - are already on the scene, having travelled to meet the leader of the original expedition when Mr McDonnell first went missing.
