Major Fracking Concerns Remain Unanswered - IFA
The Irish Farmers Association's Environment and Rural Affairs Chairman Harold Kingston has expressed farmer’s concerns regarding the failure of Leitrim County Council, Tamboran Resources and several state agencies to adequately address farmers concerns in the Lough Allen Basin, who may be affected by fracking proposals.
Speaking after a recent meeting of senior IFA Officers from counties Cavan, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo Mr. Kingston said: "Farmers are genuinely concerned about the impact that this fracking may have on water quality in the area and there are many questions that remain unanswered.
"IFA welcomes the decision to appoint the Environmental Protection Agency to carry out an environmental impact study and the Association will meet with the EPA to ensure that farmers concerns are addressed as part of the study."
Mr. Kingston concluded: "Agriculture is the bedrock of commercial activity in the greater Lough Allen Basin and it is essential that the genuine concerns of the farming community in the area are addressed fully."

The Agricultural Minister is being accused of failing to address concerns of farmers who are experiencing major problems with the new Beef Data and Genomics Programme. Around 1,000 farmers attended a meeting in Claremorris recently and where they outlined the failings of the scheme.

Farmers Come In Thousands To Protest Funding Cuts
Some 10,000 farmers have gathered in Dublin to demonstrate over their concerns about future EU and Government funding for the agricultural sector. Kildare St and Merrion Square South have been closed to traffic as the farmers make their protest near Government Buildings and Leinster House.
