Burglary And Fraud On The Rise
The latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) report show show an 8% rise in burglaries and related cases reported to gardai last year.
Over the same period there was also a significant surge in investigations launched into fraud and deception - up more than 6 per cent, from 4,996 in 2010 to 5,311 in 2011. But apart from a very slight (0.1 per cent) increase in thefts, there was a decrease in all other major categories of crime.
The number of killings, including murder and manslaughter dropped by almost 30 per cent, down to 63 from 89 the previous year.
Attempts or threats to murder, along with assaults and harassment, dipped more than 6 per cent while drug offences were down more than 11 per cent.
While welcoming a decrease in most categories Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter he was “concerned” at the rise in burglaries.
“The increase in burglary and some other property offences emphasises the importance of vigilance and effective crime prevention.”
“The overall trend shows a decrease in most types of crime, including homicide, assault, criminal damage and drug and public order offences. Taken together this overall decrease represents a substantial achievement for law enforcement and crime prevention in Ireland,” he added.

8 Per Cent Increase In Goods Exports
Goods exports reached €8.8 billion in May 2015, an increase of 8% compared to the same time last year, according to CSO figures. In the first five months of 2015, goods exports reached €44 billion, an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2014.

There has been an increase in the number of people in Ireland who do not trust the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to run the country, a poll has suggested. The Red C/ Sunday Business Post poll found that half those surveyed no longer trust the Taoiseach.

Pension Deal Settles BOI Dispute
The Bank of Ireland has now accepted proposals for a pensions deal that will end a dispute with unions that led to a strike last November. The dispute was centred on conditions for new, incoming workers with the new "hybrid" scheme being a mixture of defined-benefit and defined-contribution schemes.

2.6% Drop In Average House Prices
The Permanent TSB and the ESRI house price index has revealed that Irish house prices have fallen by 2.6 per cent in the first six months of this year. The recent figures show that the average price paid for a house in June was €302,605, which is a drop of just over €8,000 since the start of the year. House prices in June fell by 0.
