Irish Sporting Legends Launch The Great Garda Run 2012
Garda Commissioner, Ryan Tubridy and Irish Sporting Legends have launched the 'Great Garda Run 2012' at the Aviva Stadium.
The event will see 100 members of An Garda Siochana participate in the Munich Marathon on Sunday 14th October 2012, in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
The Great Garda Run 2012 Team will be joined in Munich, by Former World Champion, Senator Eamon Coughlan as the Official Great Garda Run 2012 team mentor.
All members of the Great Garda Run 2012 Team will personally fund all expenses incurred on this trip and every cent raised by them in this initiative will go directly to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. In total, the Team of 100 Gardai are aiming to raise over €100,000 for this Irish Charity.
According to Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan: "The Great Garda Run 2012 initiative, exemplifies the historical strong sporting culture within An Garda Siochana, not just in sports participation and sports coaching but also in voluntary fundraising by Gardai within many local communities around the country."
Commissioner Callinan added: "I commend the dedication and hard work shown by all team participants, both in terms of fundraising and training for this tremendous challenge. Indeed endeavours such as the Great Garda Run 2012 undoubtedly assists, An Garda Siochana in building and sustaining positive community partnerships throughout Ireland."

Justice And Equality Budget To Increase By €85m
The budget for the Justice and Equality sector is to be increased by €85 million, totalling €2.54 billion in 2017. Funding has been provided for the recruitment of 800 Garda recruits in 2017 and up to 500 civilians to support the wide ranging reform plan in train in An Garda Síochána. A total of €71.

Taoiseach Makes Garda Commitments Following O'Higgins Report Publication
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has committed to increase garda numbers to 15,000, double the number of garda reserve officers and increase the number of civilian workers in An Garda Síochána to free up officers for frontline policing. The Taoiseach made his comments in a statement addressing the newly published O'Higgins Commission Report.
