The Dubliners Banjo Player Passes Away

One of the founding members of The Dubliners, Barney McKenna, has died at the age of 72.

McKenna is believed to have passed away at his home this morning.

The legendary banjo player had been a member of the band since 1962 and was the only remaining living member of the original line-up which included musicians Ronnie Drew and Luke Kelly.

Bouncer Shot For Turning Away Gang Member
A nightclub bouncer has been shot in Dublin after refusing entry to a man reported to be a member of a feuding gang. Gardai arrested a 23 year old man in connection with the shooting. During a violent arrest, two confrontations with the man left one officer with a broken hand, while another was punched in the face.

Ireland's Oldest Person Passes Away
Ireland's oldest person Annie Kett has died at the age of 107. She passed away at Thorpe's Nursing Home in Clarina, Co Limerick, surrounded by family and friend on Sunday. Mrs Kett was Anne Hayes in the Glen, Killahoe, in 1905. Mrs Kett is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her funeral will take place on Thursday.

Painter Passes Away At Dublin Home
Jimmy Deenihan TD Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht expressed his deep sadness on hearing of the death of the internationally renowned artist Louis le Brocquy. "The death of a loved one, is always especially sad for those close to them and for Ann Madden the loss of Louis will no doubt create a great vacuum in her life.

Journalist John Cunningham Passes Away
Galway journalist and former editor of the Connaught Tribune John Cunningham died last night. Mr Cunningham, joined the Connaught Tribune in 1984 to 2007. He previously worked as editor for the Waterford News and Star from 1982 to 1984.

Sextuplet Passes Away
One of Ireland's first sextuplets has died. It was revealed today that one of Nuala Conway's four girls - born along with two boys on 22 May - passed away at a local hospital in the North. Their publicist Max Clifford confirmed the news and said: "Our hearts go out to the mum and dad and we hope that the others are going to be fine," he said.
