Nearly 178,000 On Waiting List For Outpatients
Almost 178,000 people are waiting to be seen by a consultant after a GP referral, according to new figures produced by the HSE.
Nearly 60,000 patients have been waiting over the past six months for an outpatient appointment.
A further 10,129 patients are still waiting to be seen at an out-patient clinic in ten hospitals, since being referred before January 2011.
The hospitals with the largest out-patient waiting lists since January 2011 are Tallaght Hospital in Dublin (18,785), Waterford Regional (15,117), Beaumont Hospital (13,831) and Cork University Hospital (12,387).
The HSE says since early 2011 it has been updating the outpatient waiting list information from each hospital in order to obtain standardised, defined and robust data relating to consultant-delivered outpatient services, and to improve the quality of the processes used by hospitals to manage their demand for outpatient services.
