New Poll Show Decline In Support for Government
A new Ipsos/MRBI poll, published in tomorrow's Irish Times, shows a sharp drop in satisfaction with the Government, the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste, and a surge in support for Sinn Féin, Independents and smaller parties.
Sinn Féin is now the second most popular party in the State, the poll has found.
1,000 people responded to the poll on Monday and Tuesday, which is the first Irish Time poll since last October, and take’s into account the impact of the Budget and all the controversies such as Household Charge and water meters since then.
Support for Fine Gael is down three points to 33%, while Labour drops a substantial six points to 13%.
Fianna Fáil support is down one to 14% while there is an increase in support for Sinn Féin - up six points to 21%, putting it in second place. Independents and others are also up, by four points, to 19%.
Satisfaction with the Government has also taken a knock since October - its down 14 points to just 23% while 73% now say they are dissatisfied with the coalition's performance, an increase of 16 points.
Satisfaction with Enda Kenny is down 10 points to 42%, and Eamon Gilmore is down 14 to 27%.
However satisfaction with Opposition leaders is down as well - Micheál Martin drops five to 24% and Gerry Adams is down three to 29%.
The full results of the poll will be available tomorrow.

Mitchell Rejects Opinion Poll
Fine Gael Presidential candidate Gay Mitchell has discarded the findings of the latest opinion poll while fellow Labour candidate Michael D Higgins has rejected claims that he is too old to run for Aras. The Red C Poll published in Sunday’s Business Post showed Mr Mitchell having dropped a further two points, since the last poll, to 8%.

FG And Labour Ratings Slump
Fine Gael and Labour's ratings have significantly dropped, while independents and smaller parties have won substantial increases, according to the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI opinion poll. Fine Gael have dropped 5 percentage points to 19%, while Labour's approval has fallen 3 points to 6%.
