Truck Driver Sentenced To Five Years For Importing Cannabis
A Monaghan truck driver has been jailed for five years for importing €600,000 worth of cannabis into the State.
27-year-old David Mathews was observed by gardaí driving his truck off a ferry at Dublin Port and on to his home in Monaghan.
There he met two men from Northern Ireland who then transported the cannabis into the north.
The pair were stopped by the PSNI after crossing the border.
Mathews pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to importing 49kg of cannabis, worth €608,400, at Dublin Port on November 7th, 2009.
The other two men were jailed for six years each in a separate trial.

Cannabis worth an estimated €100,000 has been uncovered in a wooded area in Co Cavan. Gardaí confirmed they made the discovery on Tuesday at Drumgill. No one has been arrested in connection with the find, gardaí have said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí Seize €5.3m Worth Of Drugs In Co Meath
Up to €5.3 million worth of drugs have been seized following a search operation in Co Meath. As part of a planned operation by Gardaí from Meath Divisional Drugs Unit, officers carried out the search at a property in Clinstown, Stamullen at 2.45pm on Thursday, 29 June.

Cannabis Seized During Raid In Wexford
Gardai have seized herbal cannabis following a raid on a house in Wexford. It is estimated to have a street value of €45,000. A number of plants were found during the search of a property in Lee Heights on Thursday. No arrests were made and investigations are continuing.
