High Court Judge Advised To Close Facebook Page
A new High Court judge has been advised he should close his Facebook page.
One of the latest appointees to the High Court, Colm Mac Eochaidh, yesterday posted on his Facebook page: "Just to let you know I'm told I should close my FB page."
The judge, who counted journalists, academics and lawyers as online friends, used a profile picture of the Great Wall of China.
A spokesman for the Courts Service last night said it would be "unusual" for a judge to keep a public Facebook page. However, the spokesman pointed out the Courts Service does have its own Facebook page.
Fine Gael activist Mr Mac Eochaidh (49) was the running mate of Children's Minister Frances Fitzgerald in the 2002 general election for the party and also ran for the Seanad as a party candidate five years later.
He was one of two men who offered a reward for information about planning corruption in a newspaper ad in 1995 that led to the creation of the Mahon Tribunal.
