Father Of Two Sentenced Over Child Pornography

A 46-year-old father-of-two has been jailed for a year after being caught with child pornography.

Gerard Sheridan, of Meadow Drive, Hartstown, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, had pleaded guilty to the charges with judge Petria McDonnell saying she could not avoid sending Sheridan to jail, sentencing him to two years with the final year suspended.

A garda investigation led to a search of Sheridan's home where they seized a laptop, DVDs, a floppy disc and an Eircom phone bill.

The child pornography included a selection of Japanese animation known as ''hentai''.

Defence counsel said the case was unusual as 24 of the 27 images were virtual images - no actual children were used to create the images.

Sheridan also received a two-year suspended sentence in 2005 for a similar offence.
