New North-South Parliamentary Association Announced
Leinster House and Northern Assembly politicians gathered at Parliament Buildings at Stormont in Belfast yesterday to mark the formation of a new North-South Inter-Parliamentary Association.
The first co-chairs of the association have been announced as Ceann Comhairle’s Seán Barrett, and Speaker of the Assembly, William Hay.
The announcement was made at Stormont following a joint meetings of Assembly and Leinster House working groups which set up the association.
The association will have 48 members, with membership drawn in equal numbers from the Assembly and the Dáil and Seanad. It will meet twice annually on a rotational basis.
The first plenary meeting will take place in Dublin on October 12th.

Armed Support Unit Deployed In Cavan-Monaghan
A new gardaí armed support unit has been established to patrol border region in Cavan-Monaghan. The new unit is to be based in Cavan, and will complement the two other border-based armed units in Dundalk and Donegal. The new unit will be staffed by gardaí taken from other armed support units until new members are fully trained to operate it.
