Pensioner Left Locked In Room For Nine Hours After Robbery
A pensioner is recovering after intruders locked him up in his home for over nine hours.
The ordeal for Pat O’Toole, a widower in his late 70s, started around 10pm on Tuesday night when three men entered his home at Mellow’s Avenue, Arklow, Co Wicklow, demanding cash.
Entry was gained through a window at the rear of the house and the intruders had an altercation with Mr O’Toole before locking him in one room.
It is understood they made off with some cash and a cheque book.
Gardaí forced their way into the house at about 7.30am yesterday after the alarm was raised and freed him. A forensic examination of the scene was carried out.

Guests Locked In Hotel Fridge By Robbers
Two guests who awoke during a raid at a hotel in Co Wicklow were locked in a fridge by robbers. During the incident on Tuesday, a gang of masked armed men stormed the hotel and locked two guests in a large kitchen refrigerator while they raided cash tills. The men, brandishing iron bars and hurleys, burst into the Arklow Bay Hotel at around 5am.

The Department of Justice has published a criminal law bill, which could see homeowners permitted to use lethal force against intruders. Bank Staff Threatened With Machete
A bank in Co Tipperary was robbed this morning. Gardaí said nobody was physically injured in the incident but staff were very shocked. It happened at the AIB branch in the village of Clogheen which was held-up around 10.30am this morning by two men, one carrying a machete.
