Electric An Post Mail Scooters Sold Off For Fraction Of Cost Price

Eight electric scooters bought by An Post, allegedly costing €10,000 each, have been sold on for a fraction of the price after plans to use them for delivering mail had to be scrapped.

The eight Italian-made Cargo Scooters were used during trials around the city centre, but it was discovered they were not suitable for delivering mail.

The scooters, which had both front and rear carrier boxes, were kitted out in the colours and logos of An Post during the test trials. However, a spokesman for the company said the bikes were not suitable to be used for mail deliveries.

More than 1,500 employees of Swiss Post currently use similar scooters, made by Italian company Oxygen SPA.

Roger Roulston, a businessman from Letterkenny in Co Donegal, has put a reserve price of €1,500 on each of the scooters.

“I bought them on the internet from a guy who was acting on behalf of An Post. He told me they were originally bought for €10,000 each. “
